Police are investigating the death of a newborn baby girl whose body was found on a pavement in Central this afternoon (March 9).
About 2.45pm, a 41-year-old female passer-by reported that a newborn baby girl was found on the pavement near the junction of Connaught Road Central and Pedder Street.
The baby girl, with an umbilical cord, was embraced by a multi-coloured towel and a black coat inside a white paper shopping bag. The baby was certified dead by ambulancemen at the scene.
A post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow (March 10) to ascertain the cause of the baby's death.
Investigations by District Crime Squad of Central District are proceeding.ˇˇAnyone who saw the incident or who has any information is urged to contact the investigating officers on 2860 1957 or 2860 1958.
