The Government published a notice in the Gazette today (March 7) on the change of functions of several correctional institutions. The changes will take effect on May 16.
A Correctional Services Department spokesperson said the reshuffle would alleviate overcrowding in female institutions, and provide an opportunity to refurbish the penal facilities.
Lai King Training Centre, situated at 16 Wa Tai Road, Kwai Chung, will be renamed Lai King Correctional Institution (LKCI) to accommodate young female offenders currently detained at Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution. Chi Lan Rehabilitation Centre, currently situated at Shek O Road on Hong Kong Island for detaining young female offenders, will be relocated to the designated dormitories inside LKCI.
