Tenders invited for reconstruction and improvement of Tuen Mun Road (Eastern Section)

    The Highways Department today (March 7) invited tenders for construction and improvement of Tuen Mun Road - Eastern Section.

    Tender submissions should be placed at the Government Secretariat Tender Box in the lift lobby on the lower ground floor of the Central Government Offices (East Wing), 20 Lower Albert Road, Hong Kong. Closing date is noon on May 2.

    The works mainly comprise:

(i)  Reconstruction and re-alignment of Tuen Mun Road between Tsuen Wan and Tsing Lung Tau to current expressway standard.
(ii)  Widening of traffic lanes to expressway standard width and provision of hard shoulders and verges along Tuen Mun Road.
(iii)  Widening of highways structures including vehicular bridges, box culverts and underpasses.
(iv)  Reprovision and modification of the existing footbridges.
(v)  Improvement of the merging/diverging arrangement at Sham Tseng Interchange and Tsing Long Highway's exit ramp onto westbound of Tuen Mun Road.
(vi)  Replacement of the existing road restraint system with new types of parapets and roadside barriers.
(vii)  Reconstruction of at-grade pavements.
(viii)  Installation of cantilever/vertical noise barriers and semi enclosures on Tuen Mun Road at Tsuen Wan/Yau Kom Tau, Sham Tseng and Anglers' Beach.
(ix)  Ancillary works including slope, drainage, landscaping, water and utility works; installation of traffic control and surveillance and fire fighting systems; modification of direction signs to current expressway standard; and provision of catchwater decking and the related debris flow mitigation measures.

    The works are expected to begin in June and will take about 57 months to complete.

    The works have been designed and construction will be supervised by Maunsell Consultants Asia Ltd., which is appointed by the Major Works Project Management Office of Highways Department.
