The following is issued on behalf of the Road Safety Council:
Members of the public have been invited to set a new Guinness World Record for the world's largest road safety symbol.
Speaking at a press conference today (March 6), Chairman of the Road Safety Campaign Committee Mr Lawrence Yu invited members of the public to take part in the "Forming the Road Safety Symbol Event cum Road Safety Vision Song Launching Ceremony" and form a giant vision symbol on "Zero Accidents on the Road, Hong Kong's Goal".
Organised by the Road Safety Council, the activity is supported by the Hong Kong Police Force, the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol, relevant government departments, non-governmental organisations and other sponsors.
Chairperson of the Road Safety Publicity Strategies Working Group (Vision Song), Mr Tony Tsang said at the press conference that the Road Safety Vision Song would also be introduced in the ceremony. The Council hopes the song by Hong Kong's Priscilla Chan can help the public better understand the importance of road safety and support the vision.
Deputy Commissioner of the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol Dr Lawrence Lam said, "We have received very keen response from our members and so far there are about 7,500 signed up to take part in the event."
The activity will be held at Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground, 8 Fu Hong Street, Siu Sai Wan, Hong Kong, on March 30 (Sunday) at 2pm. In addition to forming the giant vision symbol, people can enjoy performances by the band of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol and singers, lion dance and game booths.
The activity will be broadcast live on Metroinfo channel of Metro Broadcast. People interested in taking part in the "Forming the Road Safety Symbol Event" can register for free at www.hkroadsafety.com on or before March 10 (Monday).
