Employer ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 5) pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $1,100 on behalf of one employee, who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.

    At the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Kwan Fook Kee trading as Service Press and Paper Co, did not dispute the amount claimed. The adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $1,159.26, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the defendant to pay $130 as costs in respect of the claim.
