Unlicensed food factory in Yuen Long raided (with photos)

    Officers of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) and the Police smashed an unlicensed food factory in Yuen Long and seized about 520 kilogrammes of pork in a joint operation this morning (March 5).

    Officers raided a structure at Kong Tai Road, Tai Kong Po Tsuen, which was being used as an unlicensed food factory. A man and a woman were arrested and are assisting investigations.

    An FEHD spokesman said stringent enforcement action would continue to be taken against unlicensed food business to safeguard food safety and public health.

    Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed food factory is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.

    "People should report such illegal activities through the department's hotline at 2868 0000," the spokesman said.
