New Zealand troupe Te Vaka will treat Hong Kong audiences to the hottest Polynesian music and dance at a concert this month.
Te Vaka was described as ¡°...one of the loveliest blends of Pacific traditions and contemporary forms ...¡± by ¡°The Listener¡± of New Zealand.
Te Vaka, a unique 11-piece group, has enchanted the world with its music, costume and dance of the South Pacific since 1997. From timeless roots in Polynesia, Te Vaka has incorporated contemporary influences to create something new, refreshing and exciting. It has performed in more than 30 countries around the world and released five albums to date and obtained many awards. Audiences have been captivated by the Te Vaka experience. On stage Te Vaka delivers more than just a musical performance. Audiences are taken, with music and dance, on a journey into the Pacific Islands, into the heart of Polynesia.
Opetaia Foa¡¯i is the group¡¯s songwriter and lead vocalist. The inspiration for his music comes from his multi-cultural upbringing - Tokelauan and Tuvaluan. Opetaia¡¯s musical background spans both the traditional and the diverse influences of contemporary metropolitan culture. He won the Senior Pacific Artist award in 2005 for his contribution to the Pacific Arts.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department as one of many attractions of the ¡°Family Fiesta 2008¡±, Live in Concert by Te Vaka (New Zealand) will be staged at 8pm, March 13 (Thursday) at the Theatre, Sheung Wan Civic Centre. Tickets priced at $160 and $120 are now available at all URTBIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
