Executive Director re-appointed to SFC

    The Financial Secretary has re-appointed Mrs Alexa Lam as an Executive Director of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) for a period of three years from  March 1, 2008, to February 28, 2011.  Mrs Lam will assume the post of Executive Director (Policy, China and Investment Products), with the new title of Deputy Chief Executive Officer. 

    The appointment was made with the authority delegated from the Chief Executive under the Securities and Futures Ordinance.

    A government spokesman said today (February 29), ¡°The new post will replace the existing Executive Director (Intermediaries and Investment Products) post currently filled by Mrs Lam.  As Executive Director and Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Lam¡¯s new role covers the development of overall policy for SFC as a whole, with an emphasis on Mainland China, as well as the regulation and approval of investment products.¡±

    ¡°Over the years, Mrs Lam has made invaluable contributions to the work of the SFC and maintained a close working relationship with the industry.  We look forward to her continued dedicated service to the commission in her new role,¡± the spokesman added.

      Before joining the SFC as an adviser in 1998, Mrs Alexa Lam had been a legal practitioner in Hong Kong and New York for more than 17 years and a visiting lecturer at the University of Hong Kong.  She was appointed to the current post of Executive Director (Intermediaries and Investment Products) on December 1, 2001.
