American Chinese pianist Dr Fan Cong will perform with the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra in Hong Kong in March.
Under the baton of its music director and conductor, Dr Yip Wai-hong, and guest conductor, Fan Tao, who is a national class-one conductor, the orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky's "Piano Concerto No.1 in B-flat minor" (piano solo: Dr Fan Cong) and themes from films, including "The Lion King", "Mulan", "Castle in the Sky", "Spirited Away", "Howl's Moving Castle" and "Kiki's Delivery Services". Dr Fan Cong graduated with first class honours from the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, in 1997 and has a doctorate in Music Arts and a masters in piano performance from Temple University in the United States. She has won many awards and fellowships.
Active in both solo and chamber music, Dr Fan performed at the Verizon Hall of the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia for the opening day ceremonies, and later returned as a soloist to commemorate the 150 Year Steinway & Sons celebration. In 2005, she was invited to perform the "Beethoven Emperor Concerto" at the renowned New Year's Concert in Beijing.
Dr Fan is currently an adjunct professor at Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance. She is a nationally certified teacher of music in piano by the Music Teachers National Association. She has also been listed in "Who's Who in America" and "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges" in recognition of her outstanding merit and musical accomplishments.
The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra has performed frequently in Hong Kong over the past 30 years, with a number of internationally renowned conductors and soloists. By using popular music and organising concert talks, the orchestra has introduced serious music and Chinese orchestral music to the public, especially the younger generation, raising their awareness of local culture.
This series of concerts by the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Tickets are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis).
