CEDD seeks community views on greening
**************************************

The public is invited to a forum to be held next month to give their views on the greening of Southern District.

The community forum, organised by the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) and the District Participation Group under the Southern District Council, aims to collect the views of residents and people working there on the development of a Greening Master Plan (GMP) for the district.

The GMP will define the overall greening framework of the area and will serve as a guide for those involved in planning, design and implementation of greening works.

CEDD has completed the GMPs for Tsim Sha Tsui and Central.  About 1,250 trees and 300,000 shrubs have been planted. The GMPs for Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, Sheung Wan, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay have also been completed.  The greening works of these districts will commence in mid 2008 for completion at the end of 2009.

The community forum will be held in Ap Lei Chau Community Hall on March 4 from 7 pm to 9 pm. Participants are welcome to give their views on greening issues, including greening themes, locations for planting and planting species.

Members of the public who wish to join the forum can make reservation by phone (Tel. no. 2905 8652) during office hours.  Reservation can also be made by mail or fax. Enrollment forms are available at the department website www.cedd.gov.hk/eng/greening/forum_southern.htm.

More details about the development of the GMP are available at the department website.
