HKETONY hosts spring reception in Boston (with photo)

    The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York (HKETONY) held its Chinese New Year Reception in Boston on February 21 (New York time), to celebrate the Year of the Rat.

    More than 80 guests including academics and business leaders joined the Director of HKETONY, Miss Monica Chen, at the reception held at the Downtown Harvard Club in Boston. The Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Tung Chee Hwa was one of the distinguished guests attending the event.

    Speaking at the reception, Mr Tung said that Hong Kong had been doing extremely well over the past 11 years since China resumed sovereignty in 1997, with the city's economy remaining strong and its people happy and proud and looking forward to the future with confidence. He also pointed out that a recent Time magazine article had made reference to Hong Kong, New York and London as three international financial centers.

    In her remarks, Miss Chen said that Hong Kong is proud to be one of the co-host cities for the 2008 Olympic Games, hosting the equestrian events. "We are geared up and looking forward to welcome equestrian teams and spectators all over the world to come and experience the excitement in Hong Kong," she said.

    A mini-exhibition showcasing the upcoming Olympic Equestrian events was also on display at the reception.

    The reception in Boston is the second in a series of spring receptions hosted by the HKETONY to usher in the Year of the Rat. The HKETONY kicked off the celebration with its annual Spring Reception in New York City on February 11, where some 350 guests attended event. The HKETONY will be hosting spring receptions in Chicago on February 28 and in Atlanta on February 29 for business, academic and media contacts of the office.
