Unlicensed food factory in Fanling raided

    Officers of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department this morning (December 19) raided an unlicensed food factory and seized about 400 kilogrammes of rice dumplings, Chinese puddings and steamed buns.

     Department officers raided a structure in Ling Shan Tsuen, Fanling, being used as an unlicensed food factory.  A woman was arrested and is assisting investigations.

     A department spokesman said stringent enforcement action would continue to be taken against unlicensed food business to safeguard food safety and public health.

     Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed food factory is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.

     "People should report any illegal food manufacturing activities through the department's hotline at 2868 0000," the spokesman said.
