The Customs and Excise Department today (December 17) reminded importers and exporters that import and export declarations of shipments on or after January 1, 2008, must be completed in accordance with the amendments made to the Hong Kong Imports and Exports Classification List (Harmonised System).
The amendments, published in the Gazette on December 14, will take effect on January 1, 2008.
They involve 51 commodity items, including animal products, chemical products, plastics, raw hides and skins, textiles and clothing, glassware, metal products, machinery, electrical equipment and toys.
These amendments will bring the classification list more in line with current requirements through the introduction and adoption of more appropriate sub-classification of goods.
Importers and exporters can obtain the amended list free of charge in the following ways:
(a) by downloading the list from the website of the Census and Statistics Department at www.censtatd.gov.hk/corner_on_trade_matters/import_export_declaration_lodgement_and_related_ma/index.jsp , or
(b)by calling the Import/Export Declaration and Cargo Manifest enquiry hotline of the Census and Statistics Department 2877 1818.
