244 students apply for central allocation of S6 places
******************************************************

A total of 244 students today (August 13) applied for the remaining 49 subvented Secondary Six (S6) places through Central Allocation in Stage V of the S6 Admission Procedure.

The school places will be allocated on the basis of the applicants' Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) results, the choices that they have made and the subject requirements of the schools chosen.

Application results will be uploaded on to the Education Bureau homepage (http://www.edb.gov.hk/s6ap_e) after 6pm on Thursday (August 16) and will be posted at all Regional Education Offices (REO) from 9am on Friday (August 17).  For enquiries about the S6 Admission Procedure, students can call the bureau's Central Hotline (Tel: 3112 3334) which will continue to operate until 6pm on Thursday.

Successful applicants should go in person to the school allocated for registration before 3.30pm on Friday, bringing along the original and copies of their Hong Kong Identity Card and their current year HKCEE Results Notice.

Those students who are still unable to secure an S6 place after the completion of Stage V may be able to get a place at the beginning of the new school year because some successful students may decide not to take up their places. Vacancy information will be available on the bureau homepage and at all REO throughout September. Applications should be made to these schools direct.

Besides S6 school places, students can choose from a variety of sub-degree programmes to meet their needs. For course details, they can refer to the Information Portal for Accredited Self-financing Sub-degree Programmes (http://www.ipass.gov.hk) or the websites of individual tertiary education institutions for publicly-funded programmes.

Also inviting applications are Project Yi Jin programmes. Students who have successfully completed the programmes will be awarded a full certificate that is comparable to five passes in HKCEE, with which they can further their studies by taking courses run by not only the member institutions of the Federation for Continuing Education in Tertiary Institutions but also other institutions; or seek employment, including applying for civil service posts. For more details, please refer to the Project Yi Jin homepage (http://www.edb.org.hk/yijin).

The bureau has also arranged an approved course operator to run evening senior secondary courses in designated government school premises. Students meeting relevant requirements will be eligible for a reimbursement of 30% or 100% of the course fee. For application details, please call the Hong Kong College of Technology at 2192 8118.
