The London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Harding, will give two concerts in Hong Kong - one with renowned pianist Lang Lang and the second with violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann.
The two concerts will present different music masterpieces, including Dvork's "Slavonic Dance, Op.72 No.4", Ravel's "Piano Concerto" and Berlioz's "Symphonie Fantastique, Op.14" played with Lang Lang on April 26; and Berg's "Violin Concerto" and Mahler's "Symphony No.5" with Zimmermann on April 27.
The London Symphony Orchestra is widely recognised as one of the top five in the world. It attracts Sir Colin Davis (President), Valery Gergiev (Principal Conductor) and Michael Tilson Thomas (Principal Guest Conductor) to promote classical music to the public. The recent recordings include "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith" and "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire".
Daniel Harding is one of the Principal Guest Conductors of London Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. His conducting engagements include the Dresden Staatskapelle, the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouworkest, the London Philharmonic and Vienna Philharmonic. He was awarded the title Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government in 2002.
Lang Lang is the first Chinese pianist engaged by the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic and the top American orchestras. He received the first Gold Medallion of Steinway's 150th anniversary. He became the first recipient of the Leonard Bernstein Award at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival in 2002 and won the 2004 Pennsylvania Governor's Artist of the Year Award.
Violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann finished his studies with Valery Gradov, Saschko Gawriloff and Herman Krebbers. His interpretations of the classical, romantic and 20th Century repertoire received great critical acclaim from the public. He was awarded the "Premio del Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Siena 1990", "Rheinischer Kulturpreis 1994" and the "Musikpreis of the city of Duisburg" in 2002.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "London Symphony Orchestra Concert" will be staged at 8pm at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Ticket prices from $200 to $780 are available from February 28 onwards at URBTIX outlets (each patron can purchase up to a maximum of 10 tickets per transaction on the first booking day from counter). Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients (limited tickets for students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount applies to Friends of LCSD performing venues.
