Total eclipse of the moon (with picture)

    A total eclipse of the moon will occur on Sunday (March 4).  Weather permitting, the event will be visible in Hong Kong.

     The eclipse will occur from 4.16am to 10.25am.  The former part of the eclipse can be observed in Hong Kong as the moon will set at 6.46am.  Please refer to the attached diagram and table for the path of the moon and details during the eclipse.

     The best places to observe the event will be those with unobstructed view to the west such as Tai O, Tuen Mun, Cheung Chau, Lamma Island.

     The next lunar eclipse observable in Hong Kong will be on August 28 this year. It will be a total eclipse.
