Four employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment
*********************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 29) obtained an order in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions of about $120,000 against an employer.  Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $40,000 on behalf of eight employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

The District Court today issued a judgment against Givon International Health Spa Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $122,283.68, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to five employees.

At the tribunal's hearing, the defendants - Fung Siu Yee, Yeung Fung trading as Fairy Farm and Yeung Ka Lai trading as Yat Sing Travel Company - did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $25,164.71, $14,375.03 and $7,886.53, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the tribunal respectively further awarded payments of $930 for the District Court case and $170, $150 and $80 as the costs in respect of the tribunal's claims.
