The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 23) obtained four orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $730,000 against four employers in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $40,000 on behalf of four employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The District Court today issued judgments against four employers - Lui Si Keung trading as Sanwoo Fisheries, Ng Kwok Keung trading as Chapter Printing & Design Company, Fung Shui Sang trading as Super Dragon Container Service Co. and Chan Oi Man trading as Art Print Production. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $427,700.48, $152,267.56, $78,275.2 and $77,047.61, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 15, 4, 1 and 3 employees of the defendants respectively.
The Adjudicator also ordered Ng Kwok Keung trading as Chapter Printing & Design Company and Fung Shui Sang trading as Super Dragon Container Service Co. to pay the MPFA the respective sums of $5,000 being financial penalty imposed by the MPFA for failure to make MPF contributions for employees.
At the tribunal's hearing today, the defendants, Law Kin Wong trading as Rock 'N' Hair Willa and Well Lead International Holdings Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $30,880 and $10,101.16, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the tribunal respectively further awarded payments of $930 each for the District Court cases and $230 and $180 as the costs in respect of the tribunal's claims.
