The Government today (January 19) announced re-appointments to the Council for Sustainable Development, effective from March 1, 2007.
"The council membership represents a balanced mix of stakeholders from various sectors," a government spokesman said.
The council advises the Government on priority areas for promoting sustainable development and on the preparation of sustainable development strategies that integrate economic, social and environmental perspectives; facilitate community participation in the promotion of sustainable development in Hong Kong; and promote public awareness and understanding of the principles of sustainable development.
The council has implemented two rounds of stakeholder-led engagement process to involve the community in formulating the sustainable development strategies for Hong Kong. The council has also advised on the disbursement of the Sustainable Development Fund to support community projects aimed at raising public awareness of sustainability issues.
"The council will continue to take forward these initiatives, in partnership with other organisations in the community," the spokesman said.
