Hongkong Post issues special Lunar New Year stamps

    A set of special stamps on the theme of Year of the Pig would be issued on Sunday, February 4, the Postmaster General, Mr Tam Wing-pong, announced today (January 15). A series of associated stamp products will also be put on sale from the same date.

     The stamp design for the four Year of the Pig stamps incorporates the traditional Chinese paper-cutting technique in the background to enhance the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year. In addition, a special stamp sheetlet with two stamps featuring the Dog and the Pig embossed and hot-foiled with genuine gold and 99.9% pure silver, will come with a certificate of authenticity. A further special set of four flock stamps features the Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig and incorporates four-colour printing on flock paper.

     The stamps and sheetlet will be displayed at the General Post Office and Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsuen Wan and Shatin Central post offices from today.  

     Official First Day Covers of the Year of the Pig stamps, together with Official Souvenir Covers for the flock stamps and for the Gold and Silver stamp sheetlet, will be put on sale at $1 each in all post offices as from today. Advance orders for servicing self-provided souvenir covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from today to January 23.
