LD making all-out effort to assist retrenched employees of security company
***********************************************************

The Labour Department is sparing no effort in assisting about 900 retrenched employees of Security Centre Limited. The affected employees include security guards and clerical staff.

"We are very concerned about these retrenched employees. Special counters have been set up at the department's 10 Labour Relations divisional offices and 12 Job Centres to provide immediate services to the affected employees," a spokesman for the Labour Department said today (January 11).

In addition, the department has set up two hotlines for the affected employees to enquire about their statutory rights and benefits under the Employment Ordinance (2922 6222) and about employment services (2552 0131).

"Some employees of the Security Centre Limited have already received wages for last month. We will urge the employer to pay the wages in arrears to the remaining employees to fulfil his  responsibilities under the Employment Ordinance. The employer should also pay dismissal compensation to those dismissed employees in accordance with the law," the spokesman said.

"As far as we know, the company was awarded security services contracts by individual  government departments. We are liaising closely with the departments concerned to assist the affected employees," he said.

The Labour Department has currently registered about 750 security guard vacancies with  monthly salaries ranging from about $6,300 to $10,000, and over 1,520 general office clerk vacancies with salaries ranging from $5,000 to $10,000. Job-seekers are invited to apply for these vacancies.
