Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital diarrhoea cases update
*********************************************************

A spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement today (January 3):

Since December 30, 2006, five patients (three male and two female, aged 80 to 97) and one staff member in a geriatric medical ward were found to have symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting. Appropriate tests are being carried out and results are pending. All five patients are being treated in isolation and in stable condition. The staff member is now on sick leave.

PYNEH has stepped up infection control measures in the ward. Admission and visiting arrangement to the ward are suspended.

PYNEH will continue to monitor the situation.  The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and Centre for Health Protection.

Regarding the female psycho-geriatric ward in PYNEH, in which there were patients with diarrhoea and/or vomiting symptoms earlier, no new case was found since yesterday.
