Tender closing date for Tamar extended
**************************************

In response to requests from tenderers of the Tamar Development Project, the Government today (December 30) announced that the tender closing date for the project would be extended to February 16, 2007.

The Government invited the four prequalified tenderers to submit tenders for the design-and-build contract of the project on September 29, 2006. The original tender closing date was January 26, 2007.

The four prequalified tenderers have recently requested time extension to enable them to better prepare for the tender.

"This is a positive sign that the four prequalified tenderers are taking the tender exercise very seriously and are keen to prepare competitive tenders," a Government spokesman said.

"The Government has carefully considered all relevant circumstances and decided to extend the tender period by three weeks. We believe that the additional time will allow tenderers to better prepare their submissions to meet the tender requirements," he added.

"The design-and-build contract is expected to run for 39 months. It remains Government's target to award the contract in 2007. We do not expect the extension to have any major impact on the project's overall programme," he said.
