Appointment of Non-Executive Directors to the SFC

    The Financial Secretary has re-appointed Mr Kenneth Kwok and Professor Liu Pak-wai, and appointed Mr Shengman Zhang as Non-Executive Directors of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) under the authority delegated by the Chief Executive.

     The appointments will be for two years, from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2008.

     Announcing the appointments today (December 22), a government spokesman said, "As Non-Executive Directors of the SFC, Mr Kwok and Professor Liu have been instrumental in enhancing the corporate governance, accountability and transparency of the SFC, and bringing independent views to the management of the commission.  We are grateful for their invaluable contribution and we look forward to their continued support to the work of the SFC.

     "As regards the new Non-executive Director, Mr Shengman Zhang is the Vice-Chairman, Global Banking and Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific of Citigroup.  Prior to his current position, Mr Zhang had held a number of senior positions at the World Bank and the Ministry of Finance of Mainland China.  With Mr Zhang's rich knowledge and experience in the financial services field, we are confident that Mr Zhang will provide invaluable insights and constructive advice to SFC."

     The other serving Non-executive Directors of the SFC are Mr Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, Mr Christopher Cheng, Mrs Angelina Lee and Dr York Liao.
