Siu Lam Hospital cases of upper respiratory infection

    Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) spokesperson announced today (November 27) that since November 27, a total of six patients (aged 21 to 60) and five staff members of a male ward for the severe mental handicapped had presented with fever and upper respiratory infection.  All the staff members and one patient have recovered.  The rest of the patients are in stable condition.  Four patients had been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for isolation care and treatment; while one patient was transferred to Pok Oi Hospital for convalescence.  Appropriate tests have been arranged for the patients and the test results are negative to Influenza A and B.  Other tests for the patients are pending.

     Admission to ward has been suspended.  Patients' relatives have been informed about the situation.  Infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been stepped up.  All other patients and the staff in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
