Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital Influenza cases update

    Regarding a female psychiatric ward in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) in which there were patients that presented with symptoms of an influenza-like illness, the hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (November 27):

     One more patient (aged 41) in the same ward has presented with symptoms of an influenza-like illness. The patient is being treated under isolation and her condition is stable. A viral test result for the patient was positive to Influenza A. Since November 18, six patients have presented with the symptoms.

     All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance. Admission to the ward and visiting have been suspended. Infection control measures have already been reinforced. Thorough cleaning and disinfection have been carried out in the ward.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
