United Nations Sanctions (Democratic Republic of the Congo) Regulation 2006

    The Government today (November 17) gazetted the United Nations Sanctions (Democratic Republic of the Congo) Regulation 2006.  

     "The Regulation implements sanctions against the Democratic Republic of the Congo in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1698," a Government spokesman said.

     The Regulation implements the following sanctions:

* prohibition against supply, delivery and carriage of arms and related material to any persons in the territory of the Democratic Republic of the Congo;

* prohibition against provision to such persons of advice, assistance or training related to military activities;

* prohibition against making available funds or other financial assets or economic resources to or for the benefit of certain persons and entities designated by the relevant United Nations Security Council Committee; and

* prohibition against entry into or transit through Hong Kong by persons designated by the relevant United Nations Security Council Committee.

     "The regulation will expire at midnight on July 31, 2007, in line with UNSCR 1698," the Government spokesman said.
