Illegal hawker jailed for obstructing public officers
*****************************************************

An illegal hawker was sentenced to four weeks' imprisonment by the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (November 6) for obstructing public officers in performing their duties during a hawker raid in Shelley Street, Central.

The incident took place in the evening of November 4 this year.

"The illegal hawker showed resistance when officers of Food and Environmental Hygiene Department tried to arrest him," a department spokesman said.

The illegal hawker was also fined a total of $1,000 for illegal hawking and causing obstruction in public place.

"Use of force against public officers is not only wrong, but also carries serious legal consequences," the spokesman warned.

"Members of the public should co-operate with law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties."
