As part of the ongoing efforts to combat drink driving, the Police have launched a territory-wide anti-drink driving operation codenamed Quickchaser during the World Cup period.
Throughout the operation between June 9 and July 10, Police have conducted 2,289 visits to bars and restaurants, offered 4,264 free breath screenings for patrons and handed out more than 93,200 educational leaflets.
In addition, a total of 3,820 enforcement checks have been conducted resulting in the arrest of 111 persons for drink driving.
A Police spokesman stressed that though Operation Quickchaser had been completed, Police would continue to take stringent enforcement action against drink driving.
"All motorists are reminded not to drive after consuming alcohol," the spokesman said.
"Offenders will be liable to a maximum fine of $25,000 and an imprisonment of three years upon conviction with 10 driving-offence points incurred whilst the maximum penalty for 'Dangerous Driving Causing Death' is a $50,000 fine and five years imprisonment with 10 driving-offence points incurred and disqualification from driving for at least two years," he added.
