Education Commission welcomes university admission requirements announced by HUCOM
***************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Education Commission:

The Education Commission (EC) today (July 5) welcomes the announcement by the Heads of Universities Committee (HUCOM) on the general entrance requirements and programme specific requirements for admission to undergraduate degree programmes of the eight University Grants Committee-funded tertiary institutions under the new "334" academic structure.

The Chairman of EC, Dr Rosanna Wong, said: "The announcement by HUCOM has facilitated schools in planning for the introduction of the New Senior Secondary curriculum."

"We need to nurture informed and responsible life-long learners required by the new knowledge-based economy of Hong Kong.  It is with this objective in mind that the EC recommended the move to an academic structure offering 3-year senior secondary education and 4-year higher education," she said.

"I am delighted to note the HUCOM's support for a more broad-based curriculum with greater diversity and more choices to suit the different inclinations, interests and learning needs of our senior secondary students."

"The EC fully supports the announcement by HUCOM and calls for the full support of the school sector and the community at large in continuing to take forward the '334' reform," she added.
