*******************************************

Entries are now being accepted from the public for the Mid-Autumn Lantern Design Competition 2006.

The competition is jointly organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Education and Manpower Bureau to promote the craft of lantern-making and to arouse public interest in traditional Chinese arts.

The competition has three divisions: primary school; secondary school; and the open division for the public.

Each participant can submit only one entry, but the lantern can be made by up to four people. The same lantern cannot be submitted to more than one division.

The open division is now calling for entries, and participants should send their entry forms to the department's Entertainment Office, 6/F, Queen Elizabeth Stadium, 18 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai or by fax to 2575 0864 by August 4.

The handmade lanterns with completed forms of "Lantern Information" should be submitted to the Exhibition Hall, 1/F, Low Block, Hong Kong City Hall, 5 Edinburgh Place, Central from September 21 to 23 from 10am to 7pm.

The panel of judges will be made up of art educationists and arts administrators. The first three winners of each division will be awarded book coupons worth $1,800, $1,500 and $1,200 respectively, and entries judged to be outstanding will be awarded book coupons of $400. All the winners will be awarded certificates of merit and other prizes. Three grand prizes will also be awarded to those with distinguished designs, namely, the Lantern of Best Visual Effect, the Most Inspirational Lantern and the Lantern with the Most Creative Design.

All lanterns will be displayed at the Exhibition Hall, 1/F, Low Block, Hong Kong City Hall from September 28 to October 13.

Entry forms for the open division are available at the department's major cultural venues and all public libraries, or can be downloaded from the website, www.lcsd.gov.hk/eo.
