MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for six employees
***********************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 21) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $90,000 on behalf of six employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At today's hearing, defendants, Kayart Bus Limited and Wai Keung Construction (Hong Kong) Company Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $36,306.47 and $11,350.29, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The third defendant, Glory Top Construction Engineering Limited, did not appear at today's hearing.  In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $44,698.38, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA.  The court further awarded payments of $160, $220 and $200 as the costs in respect of the claims.

Wai Keung Construction (Hong Kong) Company Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to two counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $8,000.
