**********************************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) raided an unlicensed fresh provision shop in Yuen Long during a blitz early this morning (May 24).

Acting on information, FEHD officers took action shortly before 6am after detecting illegal poultry slaughtering activities at a temporary structure near Pak Sha Tsuen, Yuen Long.

About 60 dressed poultry and some 20 chilled/frozen poultry, believed to be for sale, were seized by FEHD officers and about 150 live chickens found on the premises were handed over to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for further action.

During the operation, a woman was arrested and subsequently charged with operating an unlicensed fresh provision shop and failing to keep the food premises clean.

According to the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed fresh provision shop is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment plus a daily fine of $900.
