Lotteries Fund allocates $966 million to welfare programmes

    The Lotteries Fund allocated $966,396,200 to finance various social welfare service programmes from January to March this year, a Social Welfare Department spokesman said today (May 10).

     Of the total, $854,649,800 went to social welfare support, $23,015,800 went to youth services, $75,259,100 went to elderly and medical social services, $11,520,600 went to rehabilitation services and $1,950,900 to family and child welfare.

     The fund was established to finance, by way of grants, loans or advances, the operation or development of social welfare services and medical or educational projects with a welfare content, the spokesman said.
