The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will again introduce two schemes to cultivate students' creativity and interest in performing arts and cultural activities through multi-faceted learning.
Under the School Culture Day Scheme, students will increase their exposure to the arts by visiting the department's performing arts venues, museums and libraries during school hours.
They are also encouraged to take part in cultural programmes tailor-made for them.
Since the launch of the scheme in 2001, more than 570,000 students from 850 schools (approximately 65% of all schools in Hong Kong) have participated in thousands of activities such as performing arts, museum visits and library events.
Meanwhile, the School Arts Animateur Scheme, which has been implemented for more than a decade, will be jointly run by the department and professional performing arts groups.
It aims to promote an appreciation of performing arts among children and stimulate their creativity. Activities include workshops, demonstrations, performances and exhibitions. Last year, a total attendance of 46,000 from 77 schools was recorded. Most of them were secondary schools. To extend its reach, there will be tailor-made projects for primary school students in the coming year.
For the 2006-07 scheme, the department will join hands with nine arts groups in Hong Kong to carry out various arts education projects, ranging from modern dance, multi-media arts, musicals to drama. They include the City Contemporary Dance Company, Hong Kong Ballet, the International Association of Theatre Critics (Hong Kong), DanceArt, Zuni Icosahedron, Prospects Theatre, Exploration Theatre, Shu Ning Presentation Unit and Class 7A Drama Group.
