Festival-goers have fun of climbing up bun tower (with photos)
*******************************************************

Lots of festival-goers got the chance to climb the famous bun tower today (April 30) at the climbing event of "2006 Bun Carnival" at the soccer pitch of Cheung Chau Pak Tai Temple Playground.

By making on-site applications for "Bun Tower Climbing Challenge" of the "2006 Bun Carnival" jointly organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and the Hong Kong Cheung Chau Bun Festival Committee, they enjoyed the fun and excitement of climbing the 15-metre tall tower used for the Bun Scrambling Competition on May 6.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the climbing event, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Cheung Chau Bun Festival Committee, Mr Yung Chi-ming, noted that the "Bun Tower Climbing Challenge" was a newly added programme for festival-goers to experience climbing up the tower.

The "Bun Tower Climbing Challenge" divided into four groups - the Master Group (aged 35 or above), Adult Group (aged 18 to 34), Youth Group (aged below 18 and at least one metre tall), and Family Group (a team of two and each member must be at least one metre tall).

The challenge had six sessions, with each session lasting for an hour. Souvenirs featuring the buns were awarded to participants of the six groups in each session who reached the designated height on the bun tower in the shortest time.

The climbing event in the carnival also offered lots of other festive programmes. The Hong Kong Mountaineering Union gave climbing demonstrations and there were also traditional Chinese arts and crafts stalls.

People enjoyed variety shows like magic performances and traditional Chinese entertainment.

A total of 12 finalists selected on Saturday afternoon (April 29) will enter the Bun Scrambling Competition to be held on May 5 night at the Cheung Chau Pak Tai Temple Playground.
