Briefing on proper use of fitness equipment (with photo)
********************************************************

Using equipment in fitness rooms to exercise regularly is a great way to keep fit and stay healthy both physically and mentally.

You are welcome to join one of the free sessions entitled, "Briefing on Proper Ways to Use Fitness Equipment", organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) to learn how to use fitness equipment correctly and safely. The briefings will also teach the basic concepts of physical fitness and sports, and the most effective ways of exercising.

The briefings, which will be conducted by professional instructors from the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China (PFAHK), will take three hours and comprise lectures and practical demonstrations.

Participants who pass an assessment at the end of the briefing can be registered as LCSD fitness room users able to hire the facilities.

The registered users can further enrol for a free fitness instruction session provided by professional instructors at designated periods at LCSD sports centres.

The briefings will start in May at LCSD's sports centres in the 18 districts. About 60 sessions have been organised.

The briefings will let the public know the advantages of doing exercise in fitness rooms and the correct ways to use the equipment, inviting members of the public to practise more and hence boosting exercise in fitness rooms in the community.

The Vice-chairman of PFAHK, Mr Kong Fung, said he trusted the briefings would encourage the public to learn the proper and effective ways to employ the fitness equipment, make them interested in exercising in fitness rooms and help promote the culture of physical fitness exercise in the community.

"Lectures and demonstrations provided by our professional instructors at the briefing sessions will enable the participants to acquire the basic skills. By exercising regularly in their spare time, they can stay healthy both physically and mentally," noted Mr Kong.

Recommending the briefing sessions, Community Sports Committee member Dr Lo Wing-lok listed the advantages of regular exercise.

Dr Lo said that regular exercise was instrumental to having an energetic body and good mood.

The briefings are free and open to people aged 15 and above. Enrolments can be made at District Leisure Services Offices or any recreation and sports venues with Leisure Link Services. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

For details, please call LCSD District Leisure Services Offices or relevant sports centres.
