Police to launch Strategic Action Plan on physical health
*********************************************************

The Police will launch its Strategic Action Plan (SAP) 2005-2008 on promotion of physical health this Sunday (April 9) to reaffirm its long-term commitment to encourage all Force members to stay physically fit at all times.

¡°We have been actively promoting a healthy lifestyle programme for 10 years since 1996. To underline our commitment to officers¡¯ physical fitness, we have made physical health a SAP project so that more focused action and motivation could be provided during the three years to achieve a higher goal,¡± a Police spokesman said today (April 6).

¡°We hope that the launching of the SAP would encourage every Force member to take up a sport as a healthy pursuit as sports will help them improve their physical health, alleviate their work pressure and enhance their resilience,¡± he added.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Lee Ming-kwai will officiate at the launching ceremony of the SAP where the concept of ¡°one officer one sport¡± will be promoted and all the indoor areas of Police clubs will be declared as ¡°no smoking¡± areas from April 9.

The ceremony will be held at the Police Sports and Recreation Club, which together with the Police Officers¡¯ Club, will celebrate their 20th Anniversary in April.

A wide variety of sports and arts activities including rowing, bowling, swimming, table-tennis, tennis, squash,  football, horticulture, calligraphy/painting and philatelic activities will be held throughout the day for Force members and their families.

Attendees will be treated to a variety show with a lion dance, Wushu demonstration, magic show, as well as performances by the Police Band, Police Choir, Police Children¡¯s Choir and Junior Police Officers¡¯ Association Harmonica.

Police sports and arts clubs will also set up booths to promote a healthy lifestyle and recruit members on the spot.
