Illegal meat roasting factory smashed (with Photo)

    Officers of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) smashed an illegal meat roasting factory during a blitz operation today (April 4).

     Acting on complaints, FEHD officers found an illegal food business operating at a premises on the ground floor, rear portion, 123 Pak Tai Street, Kowloon City.

     A total of 540 kilogrammes of raw and roasted meat/poultry meat and a quantity of paraphernalia, including an LP gas cylinder, found at the premises were seized.

     A man was arrested and subsequently charged with operating an unlicensed food factory.
¡¡¡¡
     A spokesman for the FEHD said the department would continue to take stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food business to safeguard food safety and public health.

     Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed food factory is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment, plus a daily fine of $900.

     "People should report such illegal activities through the department¡¯s hotline at 2868 0000," he said.
