MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for 21 employees

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 29) pursued 11 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $210,000 on behalf of 21 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, the three defendants, Genesis Engineering Transportation Company Limited and Wai Ming Construction Steel Limited and Ocean Jet Development Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $40,820.94, $26,862.13 and $6,050.64, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other eight defendants, including Conmax Engineering Limited, Startac Engineering Limited, Winson Knitting Industrial Company Limited, Leung Kam Wah Formerly trading as Tat Ming Engineering & Trading Co, Hero Fine Corporation Limited, Fong Chun Hing, Kong Kwok On and Tsoi Mau Hung trading as Wing Lun Construction Engineering Co, Ng Ping and Southern Fortune Trading (Hong Kong) Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $45,641.58, $33,499.79, $24,832.16, $18,301, $14,490, $9,007.94, $7,821.15 and $3,942.58, being mandatory contribution in arrears and surcharge payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $170, $330, $90, $160, $160, $130, $170, $200, $190, $140 and $190 as the costs in respect of the claims.

     Ocean Jet Development Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to eight counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $16,000.
