Courteous Immigration staff commended (with photo)

    Ms Du Pui-ying is officially Hong Kong's most courteous immigration control officer.

     The Acting Director of Immigration, Mr Chow Kwok-chuen, and the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), Ms Clara Chong, presented awards and souvenirs to Ms Du at the Staff Motivation Scheme presentation ceremony at Immigration Headquarters today (March 27).

     "The aim of the scheme was to encourage staff devotion to work and to strengthen their sense of belonging. This, in turn, would enhance quality of service," Mr Chow said.

     "The Most Courteous Immigration Control Officer Election" in 2005 was the 10th campaign held. The objective of the campaign is to promote a customer-focused service culture in the Government and help promote Hong Kong tourism," he said. He thanked all frontline Immigration control officers at the various control points for their efforts to provide efficient and courteous service to travellers.

     HKTB Executive Director, Ms Clara Chong, commended the frontline immigration officers for their friendly and efficient service to visitors. "In 2005, Hong Kong welcomed more than 23 million visitor arrivals, an average of around 63,000 arrivals each day," she said. "By helping to shape that critical first impression, our immigration control officers contributed to creating a lasting impression of our city, our culture and hospitality among visitors.

    "Indeed, the success of our tourism industry relies on the concerted efforts and total commitment of different sectors of our community," she added. "As our industry embraces a new era in 2006 Discover Hong Kong Year, I'm sure we can continue to count on the devoted, professional services of our immigration control officers to create memorable experiences for our visitors as they arrive and depart our city."

     Mr Chow thanked the HKTB for its support in making the Most Courteous Immigration Control Officers Election Campaign a success. The winner was named the Hong Kong Courtesy Ambassador by the HKTB.

     He also presented awards to the other winners of the Most Courteous Immigration Control Officers Election Campaign and the Christmas Card Design Competition.
