MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for seven employees

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 14) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $130,000 on behalf of seven employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, the defendant, Yeung Sui Transportation Company Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $45,425.22, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other five defendants, Asson Computing Education Centre Limited, Fine Projects Limited, The Park Language Group Limited, Utec Limited and Bonvic Holdings Limited trading as Bonvic F & B, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $49,688.10, $27,239.28, $4,921.37, $1,898.70 and $1,644.88, being mandatory contribution in arrears and surcharge payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $130, $290, $110, $80, $70 and $320 as the costs in respect of the claims.

     Yeung Sui Transportation Company Limited, Asson Computing Education Centre Limited, The Park Language Group Limited and Utec Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to 10, three, one and 12 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time respectively and were fined $14,000, $11,300, $10,000 and $21,000.
