The Department of Health (DH) is seriously looking into a case in which the body of a 90-year-old man in Fu Shan Public Mortuary was found missing.
It was reported that the body was taken away by the family of another deceased person on March 4 and was subsequently cremated.
"The Director of Health is very concerned about the case, and appreciated the feelings of the families involved in the incident," a DH spokesman said.
"The Department has been maintaining close liaison with them in order to offer every possible assistance," he added.
"The Director has directed an investigation to be conducted immediately, and will appoint an independent committee comprising members of the public to review the incident and the system of the mortuary," he said.
