MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for five employees
************************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 15) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $31,000 on behalf of five employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

The defendants, including La Cave D'Alfred Limited, A & A Manufacturing Limited, Elite Design & Construction (International) Limited, Liu Chi Wah trading as Lorry Catering Service and Lucky Link Investment Limited trading as Sun Wah Restaurant (translation), did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $10,860.72, $10,451, $5,250, $4,767 and $272.13, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $80, $220, $80, $90 and $240 as costs in respect of the claims.

La Cave D'Alfred Limited and A & A Manufacturing Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to six counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and one count of failing to enroll one employee in an MPF scheme, and was fined $15,000 and $8,000 respectively.
