************************************************************************
The Acting Chief Executive, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, joined members of the public to share the fun of doing exercise at Yuen Chau Kok Sports Centre in Sha Tin District on Sport For All Day (SFAD) 2017 organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) today (August 6).

With dancing as its theme this year, SFAD has adopted "Stay Active, Let's Dance" as the slogan. It seeks to encourage people of all ages and different abilities to participate in various sports activities, make exercising a habit and maintain a healthy lifestyle by practising a simple dance that can be accompanied well by different types of music. SFAD 2017 is also one of the celebration events of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, inviting the community to share the joy of the occasion.

Accompanying Mr Cheung were the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah; the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li; the Acting District Officer (Sha Tin), Mr Simon Wong; and the Chairman of the Sha Tin District Council, Mr Ho Hau-cheung. Elite athletes Yu Chui-yee (wheelchair fencing) and Mak Cheuk-wing (windsurfing) also joined the activities.

Mr Cheung and other guests first watched a flash mob dance performance before launching the parent-child rhythmic movement and rainbow parachute games. They then visited the participation sessions of indoor rowing, towel exercise, wheelchair fencing and floor curling, and enjoyed a demonstration of "Easy Dance for All", which is the theme dance of SFAD 2017. They also took part in the indoor lawn bowl activity session with primary school students.

To show support for SFAD, six Principal Officials also joined the activities held in various districts today. They were the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, who visited Pei Ho Street Sports Centre in Sham Shui Po District; the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Dr Law Chi-kwong, who visited Smithfield Sports Centre in Central and Western District; the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joshua Law, who visited Po Kong Village Road Sports Centre in Wong Tai Sin District; the Secretary for Security, Mr John Lee, who went to Kowloon Park Sports Centre in Yau Tsim Mong District; the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Frank Chan Fan, who visited Tai Hing Sports Centre in Tuen Mun District; and the Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, who visited To Kwa Wan Sports Centre in Kowloon City District.

This is the ninth year in which the LCSD has organised SFAD to promote sport for all. About 200 free recreation and sports programmes are being offered at designated sports centres in the 18 districts today, including dance participation activities, health talks and exercise demonstration, family mini-games, sports activities for people with different abilities and other sports participation activities.

Most of the LCSD's leisure facilities are also open for free use by the public today.

To garner more community support, the LCSD invited the 18 District Councils, National Sports Associations and District Sports Associations, as well as major residential estates and privately run sports clubs, to organise activities and offer facilities for the public and their residents or members to enjoy today.

SFAD 2017 is co-organised by the Department of Health; the Sports Medicine Team of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; the Sports Medicine and Health Science Alumni Association of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China; the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled; the Hong Kong Sports Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability; and the Hong Kong Dance Federation.
