Police officers issued a total of 1,016 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 71 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (June 27).
The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 284 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 865 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 151 for other traffic offences.
Besides, three drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Statistics revealed that a total of 1,211 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to May 2016, of which 356 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 42.1 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
