The Government today (June 24) announced that the Chief Executive has re-appointed Mrs Fanny Law as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) for two years starting from July 1, 2016.
The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, said, "During the past two years, Mrs Law actively steered the reform of the Science Park and strengthened its super-connector role to bring together the Government, industry, and academia and research sectors as well as link up with potential partners including investors, research institutions, and the commercial and industrial sectors in different parts of the world. Building upon the successful completion of the Science Park Phase 3 development, the HKSTPC is planning for the further expansion of the Science Park and implementation of the enhanced industrial estate policy. We are confident that under Mrs Law's leadership, the corporation will continue to help Hong Kong stride forward in innovation and technology development."
The Government also announced the appointment of a new member and the re-appointment of eight incumbent members by the Financial Secretary.
Mr Joseph Ngai has been appointed as a new board member of the HKSTPC for a period of two years from July 1, 2016.
Dr Sunny Chai, Mr Owen Chan, Dr Lo Wai-kwok, Mr Theodore Ma, Professor Shyy Wei, Mr Richard Sun, Professor Tsui Lap-chee and Mr Billy Wong have been re-appointed as board members for a period of two years with effect from the same date.
Mr Yang said, "Over the past 15 years, the HKSTPC has set a solid foundation for the development of the innovation and technology ecosystem in Hong Kong. We are confident that the Board of Directors, with their impressive experience and knowledge, will help the corporation further enhance Hong Kong's position as a regional centre for innovation and technology and realise the goal of driving economic development with innovation and technology."
The term of an incumbent board member, Mr David Fong, will expire on June 30 this year.
"In the past six years, Mr Fong has provided valuable contributions to steering the corporation in pursuing its public mission. The achievements of the corporation are due in no small part to his guidance and wise counsel," Mr Yang said.
The HKSTPC, which began operation on May 7, 2001, manages the Hong Kong Science Park, three industrial estates and the InnoCentre, and supports innovation and technology development in Hong Kong. It provides a comprehensive range of services to cater for the needs of industry at various stages, including nurturing technology start-ups through the incubation programme, providing premises and services in the Science Park for applied research and development activities, and providing developed land in the industrial estates for production.
