The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (June 8, France time) continued his visit in Toulouse to learn more about the aviation, innovation and technology industries in France.
Mr Leung first visited Oncopole, a leading cancer research facility with 2 500 professionals from academic, scientific, medical, technological, clinical and pharmaceutical sectors to conduct research as well as invent and commercialise new medicines and equipment. Mr Leung said that the visit has rendered valuable insights on the prevention and control of cancer, which has become a major public health issue in Hong Kong.
Mr Leung then toured Toulouse Airport before departing for Paris in the afternoon. He was impressed with the airport's new initiatives to enhance its infrastructure, noting that Hong Kong International Airport could borrow Toulouse's experience in constructing the new runway and facilities.
Upon his arrival in Paris, Mr Leung will attend a luncheon hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development of France, Mr Jean-Marc Ayrault. Mr Leung is pleased to see a growing French presence in Hong Kong, and looks forward to enhancing co-operation between Hong Kong and France on various fronts, including innovation and technology, transportation, trade, professional services, education and culture.
In the afternoon, Mr Leung will go to the Plateau de Saclay in Paris to visit CentraleSupélec, a key training and research centre in engineering sciences in the Paris-Saclay technology cluster. CentraleSupélec has already established academic and scientific research co-operation with Hong Kong universities and Mr Leung looks forward to more collaboration between Hong Kong and French education institutions.
Mr Leung will end the day with a reception for Hong Kong people living in France to learn more about their work and life in general.
