Territory-wide operation to combat illegal parking
**************************************************

The Police will hold a one-week territory-wide operation starting from tomorrow (June 1) to June 7 aiming to combat illegal parking and congestion related moving offences which obstruct traffic flow.

Stringent enforcement action will be taken during the operation. The Police will issue summons against road users in relation to illegal parking, particularly double parking and stopping or waiting at restricted zones.

A Police spokesman said that the Police would issue multiple tickets and take summons action against drivers who blatantly contravened illegal parking regulation and obstructed traffic flow or even endangered other road users. Illegally parked vehicles would be towed away if necessary. Besides, Police would strengthen enforcement actions against illegal loading, unloading, picking-up, getting off activities and stopping or waiting at restricted zones of a road to enhance traffic flow.

Police figures showed that a total of 1,326,112 fixed penalty tickets against parking offences were issued in 2015.

The Police will continue to step up publicity and education for road users on complying with the traffic regulations in order to maintain smooth traffic flow and reduce traffic accidents.
