The spokesperson of Cheshire Home, Shatin made the following announcement today (May 31):
Eleven patients (aged 80 to 96) in a female ward of the Infirmary Unit have presented with symptoms of skin infection since May 25. Seven of the above patients have been confirmed as having scabies after laboratory examination. One of the patients passed away on May 28 due to her own underlying illness while others are being treated under isolation with stable condition.
Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
